Question by arcticpenguin · Aug 21, 2011 at 04:59 PM · texture2dout of memory

Out of memory(Max Size)

There's an advanced texture in my project whose "max size" is 1024, and I wanted to change it to 4096. However, my Unity crashed with "Out Of Memory!" after I did it. Does anyone know why? Plus, how to fix this problem("max size must be 4096")?

Thank you!!~

Sounds like 4096 just not gonna work for you. Try breaking it into 4 pieces at 2048 each. 4096 square is like 67MB, that's pretty big.

Is there any reason why it needs to be so big?

At one point, I needed a picture to scroll, because I was making a vertical shooter.

Anyways instead of making it scroll what I did was broke it down into pieces, and then once that piece wasn't visible anymore I deleted it from memory, and I just added in the pictures that were supposed to be visible dynamically, worked pretty good too.
