Question by pp_dd · Feb 07, 2019 at 11:12 AM · freezelaggy

Is pro or plus as laggy as personal?

Hey,

I installed unity personal and Im trying to use it. But everytime I switch from another window in windows 10 pro to the unity window, it takes a few seconds to "awake" from its "freeze". This is pretty annoying. It also happens on an empty project. I got a 16 core threadripper, 64gb ram and a 1060gtx. And the newest Unity and Windows versions. Everything works perfect. Except unity.

So before I spend any money, I would like to know, if every version is so laggy?

i am using a 4 gb ram no graphics carrd and i5 second gen and not having any issues with both plus and personal unity. only when unity needs to import any assets dragged to the assets folder. try downloading unity hub and test another version of unity, maybe a LFS (since will have less buggs) one and see if it continue your issue.

As far as I know Pro and Plus versions don't change anything about Unity, they are the exact same editor.

Thanks for the comments... Then I wait for a working version before I buy.. I tried the last 5 versions, but everytime the same problem.. If I try older versions I get many compile errors... Updated every driver possible... Nothing helps

when opening empty projects happens the same?

probably not. OP, 80-90% of people are working with a slower/weaker system than yours, yet they don't have any problems. It must be something on your end.

Ok, I found the "problem". The project(s) are stored on network drives...When i store it local, it works -___- But evey other program doesnt have a problem with having their files on network drives (3d-Software, Adobe CC Apps and so on) unity is the only one "complaining" about that... I wonder how bigger studios handle that...I doubt, that they have every project stored local on an employees machine...

there are different repositorys that work really good with unity and doesnt affect performance at all.

The big studios I've worked in do have projects stored locally on people's machines.
