change forward vector

Hi,

is it possible to change the forward vector? alt text

the green line is currently the forward vector. is it possible to make the forward vector so it matches with the red line?

the next step would be that it points towards my mouse curser. but it should only rotate on its Yaw axis.

If you know the points between the lines you can just do something like this.

 public void SetForwardVector(GameObject target, Vector3 pointA, Vector3 pointB)
 {
     target.transform.forward = (pointB - pointA).normalized;
 }

there is no way to say something like transform.forward = transform.right

Edit: the easiest way i found right now is to change the pivot rotation in 3DS max http://www.aclockworkberry.com/world-coordinate-systems-in-3ds-max-unity-and-unreal-engine/

but it would also be handy if you could re-base the vectors with a script

could write a tool that rotates the mesh vertices, would be exactly the same as what you would do in 3DS max.
