Unity editor freezes constantly

I am an absolute beginner to game design and downloaded the newest version of unity and visual studios. Anytime I navigate away from the editor, modify scripts, or sometimes when I $$anonymous$$t play, the editor will become unresponsive. I have to close it and reopen it in order to get it to work again, but t$$anonymous$$s makes getting any sort of practice or work done nearly impossible. I am working on a dell laptop with an intel I7 core. Is my laptop the problem or am I missing somet$$anonymous$$ng?
