Restricting the rotation of an object on 2 axis and only to a certain degree

I have a robot arm's model and i want to restrict its rotation A part has to rotate on only the y axis(the base part) the range of movement must only be to a certain degree(say, from -175 to +175) I have the following code-

using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using UnityEngine;

public class FixArmRot : MonoBehaviour {

 void Awake()
 {
     Update();
 }
   

 // Update is called once per frame
 void Update()
 {
     float currentY = transform.localRotation.eulerAngles.y;

     transform.localEulerAngles = new Vector3(0, currentY, 0);

     if (currentY < 0 && currentY > 175)
     {
         currentY = 175;
         transform.localEulerAngles = new Vector3(0, currentY, 0);
     }
    if(currentY > 0 && currentY < -175 )
     {
         currentY = -175;
         transform.localEulerAngles = new Vector3(0, currentY, 0);
     }

 }

}

First of all you are not supposed to call Update() in Awake(). You're better check this out. And when it comes to answer, to restrict your value you could simply do:

 float targetY;
 
 void Start() 
  {
      targetY = transform.localRotation.eulerAngles.y;
  }
    
  void Update()
  {
      //you could just check it when arm is moved (just suggestion)
      targetY = $$anonymous$$athf.Clamp(num, -175, 175);
      transform.localRotation = Quaternion.Euler(0, targetY, 0);
  }
