Audio component not playing from gameobject arrays

Hi, I am new to unity and currently i am trying to play audio from gameobject arrays. I have created an array of gameobjects and then i attached prefabs to it. The audio plays fine if "play on awake" is ticked but does not work when playing through script.

This is the array which i have initialized through unity.

 public GameObject[] numbers;

This is the code to play the sound.

 AudioSource audioSource=numbers[0].GetComponent<AudioSource>();
 audioSource.Play(); //does not work

Also Tried this

 AudioClip objectSound = numbers[0].GetComponent<AudioClip>();
 audioSource.PlayOneShot(objectSound);

Do you get any error in the console at runtime (most likely a NullReferenceException)


Are the objects active when you ask the audiosource to play?
