Question by Serge144 · Aug 13, 2019 at 09:51 PM · terraincubeterraindatageometryterrain-editor

How to set thickness to terrain plane

very simple question and can't seem to find t$$anonymous$$s anywhere, the terrains in unity are a simple plane, is there a way to, for example, instead of a plane use a cube or a parallelepiped, and the top surface of that object would be the terrain where we can edit elevations and details?

Not exactly sure what your trying to do, But if you make a cube plane it HAS to be set as "terrain" in order for you to set its properties (t$$anonymous$$ckness etc.).

This is what i'm trying to do: https://pin.it/tywmflfhiml5qj as you can see, you can add details and elevation on the top of this and below the terrain is thickness as it was placed on top of a cube or something.

You can't. You can use other objects and meshes for a Terrain and give t$$anonymous$$ckness to them. But unfortunately you cannot set the t$$anonymous$$ckness of an actual terrion. The t$$anonymous$$ckness is always fixed. What are you trying to do, maybe there is a way around.

surprises me how simple things like this can't be done easily, but yes there may be a work-around.. all i wanted is something like this: https://pin.it/tywmflfhiml5qj . So you're saying that i could use a cube, but the "terrain" side of it (elevations and vegetation) would have to be based on prefabs and other geometry and not labeled as an actual unity terrain is that it? The problem with this is that i wouldn't be able to add grass/details, with wind motion and so on which unity terrain already does all the work and which is and essential part of the game.
