Question by RiverVenom · Sep 26, 2019 at 12:18 PM · ragdollracing game

Make a car drive only when a ragdoll is indside.

So I am making a racing game where you control a ragdoll in a car and i have a movement script, but i'm quite new to unity and im not sure how to make it so you can only control the car while the ragdoll is inside. If it helps I am using C# and here is the movement script:

 using System.Collections;
 using System.Collections.Generic;
 using UnityEngine;

 public class PlayerMovement : MonoBehaviour
 {
     private float speed = 10.0f;
     private float turnSpeed = 25.0f;
     private float horizontalInput;
     private float forwardInput;

     // Update is called once per frame
     void Update()
     {
         horizontalInput = Input.GetAxis("Horizontal");
         forwardInput = Input.GetAxis("Vertical");

         transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * Time.deltaTime * speed * forwardInput);
         transform.Rotate(Vector3.up, turnSpeed * horizontalInput * Time.deltaTime);

     }

 }

Don't check for a ragdoll, just use a boolean which is set to true when the conductor enter the car, false when he leaves. Get out of the Update loop when the boolean is false.

 class PlayerMovement : MonoBehaviour
 {
     // ... your stuff
     private bool _hasDriver;

     void Update()
     {
         if (_hasDriver)
             return;

         // put your code here
     }

 }

I have tried your suggestion i'm not sure if i'm doing it right but it isn't working, here is the code now:

 using System.Collections;
 using System.Collections.Generic;
 using UnityEngine;

 public class Player$$anonymous$$ovement : $$anonymous$$onoBehaviour
 {
     private float speed = 10.0f;
     private float turnSpeed = 25.0f;
     private float horizontalInput;
     private float forwardInput;
     private bool _hasDriver;

     // Update is called once per frame
     void Update()
     {
         horizontalInput = Input.GetAxis("Horizontal");
         forwardInput = Input.GetAxis("Vertical");

         if (_hasDriver)

             return;

             transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * Time.deltaTime * speed * forwardInput);
             transform.Rotate(Vector3.up, turnSpeed * horizontalInput * Time.deltaTime);

     }

 }

You need to set the _hasDriver boolean to True somewhere in your code (when the conductor enter the car).
