Problems with interial forces being applied to an object

Hello,

I have a little VR game set up where my controllers are hands with colliders attached to each bone and there is a ball that I am interacting with. It feels as though, for some reason gravity is extremely strong or there is some weird horizontal drag going on that is causing weird physics. If I swat the ball out of the air, it feels as though it sticks with the hand for a second as soon as it leaves contact it simply drops directly towards the ground. It carries with it some minor inertia after it bounces, but the impact with my hand is not creating any horizontal momentum at all. Additionally, if I swat the ball upward from the bottom, it seems inclined to just fall directly down instead of capturing the force I'm applying to the object. Gravity doesn't feel exceptionally strong when I simply drop the object from a still position, it's only when I apply a force that it insists on going down and killing off any kind of inertia applied to the object.

I'm not sure what's wrong. I've messed with all of the settings on the rigid bodies, the physics materials, etc, etc. My scales appear to be fine and gravity in the physics settings appears to be normal. I just don't know why it's not handing interia correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
