Best Compiler To Use

Hey guys,

I don't know if this is a question for the forum or answers so I'm just going with answers first.

If it's not correct please just tell me and I'll take it down.

I'm fed with MonoDevelop because it just keeps crashing and freezing every time I use it.

You know, that glitch were you try to simply scroll up or down and the application freezes. And then you've got to click out of the app and then click back in for it to unfreeze.

Yeah, that's happening like every 2 minutes in MonoDevelop. Its makes me go CRAZY when I'm trying to code.

Time to switch to a new compiler.

Whats the best compiler to use, in your opinion, with unity?

Thanks :)

Unity itself actually compiles your code. $$anonymous$$onodevelop (in regards to Unity projects) is just an editor with a handy feature set.

Unitron/Uniscite, depending on Mac/Pc. It was the previous default editor. However, you may use any text editor you'd like. I prefer Notepad++ on PC (see the forums for directions on setting it up to play nicely with Unity), and the old default Unitron on Mac.

Wow, Unitron is awesome. I kind of just glanced at it and then set monodevelop as my default when I first downloaded Unity. I'd try notepad++ but I use a macbook. I'd give you a +1 but apparently I don't have enough points yet. Thanks :)

Now I have enough, +1 :)

I use $$anonymous$$onoDevelop because of the autocomplete, and syntax highlighting that is not just vague guessing. I would say the disadvantages of it are not enough to outweigh the ability to keep track of my (frankly humungous) project with a proper ID$$anonymous$$

I cant understand why it would be crashing all the time for you surely the only thing you need to do in it once its open is type and save whilst occasionally switching between files. I do agree with syclamoth that the benefits of using a full featured IDE overshadow it not being a native cocoa app and its subsequent niggles.

Its worth seeing if updating your version of mono helps or if you have the newest version of unity installed. I haven't have stability issues with monodev in a long while on any of my macs. The alternative as i see it would be visual studio but thats windows only...or textmate. Which is my favourite text editor (on any platform) for all other coding.
