Question regarding MeshFilter

If my understanding is correct, when an object is instantiated from a prefab, a copy of the mesh is created by MeshFilter. Thus every instantiated game object will have a different mesh even if they all have the same sharedMesh. My question is simple: how can I force all my instantiated versions to share the same mesh instead of having a clone created?
