,Auto generated scrip does not work

hello, I am a beginner and I am trying to create my first script ... I create the scrip and open it with Virtual Studio as usual and this is the code

using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using UnityEngine;

public class lantern: MonoBehaviour {     // Start is called before the first frame update     void Start ()     {              }

    // Update is called once per frame     void Update ()     {              } }

 the one that is always self generated but I can't use any of the MonoBehaviour functions I try to use Awake, Start, anyone and none works it's like monobehavior doesn't exist any help is welcome Thank you!,hello, I am a beginner and I am trying to create my first script ...
