How to make weapon match walking animation (2D)?

(All is in 2D)


Skillset:

I have no experience in animating other than drawing sprites and then linking the frames together...


What I have:

  • 8 hand drawn frame-by-frame walk animation

  • simple sword sprite

  • simple saber sprite

  • sword type 2

  • sword type 3


What I want:

A way that given the weapon equipment I chose, it matches my walking motion. I have a lot of weapon options, and the only way I know how to do it is to individually place on each frame on photoshop each weapon which given my 4 weapons would come down to 32 frames in this example. Is there a way to set up a default weapon position which will then be replaced by said weapon?


Thank you for your help! I would be much obliged even if I am simply pointed to a tutorial source.
