Elevated heights need separate box colliders?

So Im making an RTS and as such there are parts of the map that will be elevated. Currently I only created a single large map with 1 elevated piece of terrain, however because of the way I exported it its basically a single object.

The issue now lies that when I select my unit it should be able to change my canvas UI and when I select my ground it should pretty much clear the UI. This works on the elevated position, as soon as I move down the ramp however, no matter where I click (even on the unit) it only recognizes me as clicking the ground. I'm sure that its because of the way my box collider is set up (check image). I wanted to know if the easiest way to fix this would just be to import elevated positions as a separate object and give them separate box colliders or is there a secret technique I might be passing on?
