16x16 and 32x32 Sprites look exactly same

Hello everyone, I am sorry if this question sounds a bit silly, I'm kinda new to this whole thing and having a trouble to understand the concept.

So I've got a character sprite and I have the same sprite in both 16x16 and 32x32. When I import it to game, I use 32 PPU for 32x32 character and 16 PPU for 16x16. They look exactly same quality, same height, exact same size.

However I don't understand what's the difference and in what ways does it matter? What's the difference of using 16x16 or 32x32 ? I also don't understand Pixel Per Unit thing. Should I always keep PPU same as its pixel amount, like 16 PPU for 16x16 and etc?

I'd appreciate it a lot if someone could explain it in an simplified way. :)

Well, how does the source image look like? What resolution does the original image have? Keep in mind that just increasing the resolution from 16 to 32 does not improve the quality. You would just have 2x2 pixel areas which have the same color as they make up a single pixel from the original. The PPU setting is just about how large the image is displayed.

With the information given we can't really answer your question. Feel free to add more information (like the actual image or an example image that reproduces the same issue).

So the original image of 16x16 have 64x32 resolution 32x32 have 128x64 resolution. Source images have idle and walking positions. They are same.

Can you see the difference between two sprites in the photo that I uploaded? Or should there be a difference at all? It puzzled me a lot.

Both of your images are not square and they clearly can not be 16 pixels in height since you have 22 pixels in height. I still don't quite understand your issue. Of course if you have an image that is upscaled by a factor of 2 you have to use double the PPU size in order to show up at the same size. PPU (Pixels Per Unit) is the number that tells Unity how many pixels should make up one unit in the game.

Your information is still dodgy. Your sprites are not square and clearly larger than what you claim they are.
