Question by Saxgu · Jan 06, 2021 at 04:26 AM · inputtriggerssystemxboxcontroller

On Input System which Action Type for XBOX Left and Right Trigger?

Hi,

I'm new to the New Inputs System and i have read a bit of the documentation and watched some videos.

And from what I've read the Action type for Left and Right triggers on my Xbox control should be value, because it changes depending on how much you press it, but I've seen some videos where they say that its input type is button, which doesn't make sense. However I've already tried it and both Types seem to work fine so... Why is this?

According to documentation Button type just perfoms one and then goes back to waiting state, just like a button. So Triggers shouldn't work with this one because of the values between 0 and 1 they send.

Thanks a lot for your help.

If they're set up as buttons, you'll get values leftover in your variables when you release the triggers. If you set them up as Values and Axis, you'll get a value of 0 when you release them.

It's an axis, not digital values:

Your link is for the old input system.

Just gonna say this helped me figure out why I was getting leftover values when releasing a trigger.

I had each trigger set up as a button instead of a Value and Axis under the new input system.
