ragdoll recover

hello does anyone no how i can get my ragdoll to recover after he has become a ragdoll. i have alredy tried lerping to his original standing position, but that just does not look natural. my next idea is to investigate recording the way he falls and rewinding that animation to set him back to his original position. in my reading using animation.sample came up. can anyone give me ideas how to record the animation or any other suggestions about getting your ragdoll to recover

There's usually just one standard method for doing this, which is based on 'transition animations'.

You basically create an animation which first keyframe is a pose where the character is fallen on the ground. And then create an animation from that pose to standing up.

Then, after the ragdoll, you just blend the 'ongound' animation, and immediately after the 'fromgroundtostanding' animation.

Of you can just make that into a single animation.

thanks thats great but the ragdol landing position is very random, so sometimes the animation transition will not be very smooth

This is why you have two different animations for lying on the ground (back and front), as well as four different 'stumble' animations for if they're still mostly standing, and roll animations for if they are still moving.

That's what I did, and it looks awesome.

thanks. the only problem is the way my ragdoll lands is random, so sometimes the transition of the ragdoll getting up is not very smooth. do you have any other suggestions

You triple-posted a comment as an answer.

Don't do that.

I'm sorry but I don't think I ever saw a webplayer demo for this.

It's however certainly a good idea that we will absolutely include in our ragdoll tool with the included ratman model, in one future release.

You can go to my website for an in-game example of the technique, but it's a 150-meg download.
