double clicking script does not open "default code editor installed with Unity"

Doing the 2D beginner tutorial I'm prompted to write my first script, the tutorial states that by double clicking the "default code editor installed with Unity" will open. However, double clicking throws up an error message and all my searches online have led to that coding is done through Visual studio. So I'm a bit confused, is there a way to edit the script through unity or do I need to download this other program?
