Change character sprite to another sprite on click

What I am trying to achieve is to have my character sprite change to the sprite of another object in the environment when my mouse clicks on that object.

My logic is to get the sprite of the default character sprite, cache it in startChar, then have the char variable take on the startChar at Awake. In update, when I click on the left mouse, check if mouse position is overlapping the 2d collider of an object.

I'm not sure how to get the sprite of the object I clicked on to save it to morphObj, and ultimately make my character take on the same sprite as morphObj. Would appreciate all your help in advance.

         Collider2D hitCollider = Physics2D.OverlapPoint(Camera.main.ScreenToWorldPoint(pos), 6, -Mathf.Infinity, Mathf.Infinity);
         if(hitCollider != null && hitCollider.CompareTag("Object"))
         {
             morphObj = GetComponent<SpriteRenderer>();
         }
                   
         Char.sprite = morphObj.sprite;
     }
 }
