Question by cb12438 · Jul 16, 2021 at 04:32 AM · gameobject

How would i do damage to different resources with different tools

ok what I have been trying to do is to let 2 different objects do damage to different objects so a axe would do damage to a tree and the pickaxe would do damage to a rock I tried what I could to fix it and nothing seems to work here's both of the scripts if needed I am also getting no errors I am using Unity 2019

The player script the things that does damage to objects: using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using UnityEngine;

 public class Player : MonoBehaviour
 {
     public Camera cam;
     public Transform[] hand;
     public float interactDist = 5f;

     // Start is called before the first frame update
     void Start()
     {

     }

     // Update is called once per frame
     void Update()
     {
         DoInteraction();

     }

     private void DoInteraction()
     {
         Ray ray = cam.ScreenPointToRay(Input.mousePosition);
         RaycastHit hit;

         if(Physics.Raycast(ray, out hit, interactDist))
         {
         if(hit.collider.tag == "HarvestTree")
         {
                 if(Input.GetMouseButtonDown(0))
                 {
                 if(GameObject.FindGameObjectWithTag("WoodenAxe"))
                 {
                     Harvest currentHarvest = hit.collider.GetComponent<Harvest>();
                     currentHarvest.HarvestResources(10f);
                 }
                     if(hit.collider.tag == "HarvestRock")
                     {
                         if(GameObject.FindGameObjectWithTag("WoodenPickaxe"))
                         {
                             Harvest currentHarvest = hit.collider.GetComponent<Harvest>();
                             currentHarvest.HarvestResources(10f);
                         }
                         else
                         {
                             return;
                         }
                     }
                 }
             }
         }
     }
 }

then the harvest script:

 using System.Collections;
 using System.Collections.Generic;
 using UnityEngine;

 public class Harvest : MonoBehaviour
 {
     public GameObject spawnItem;
     public GameObject objectDestroy;

     public float objectHealth = 80f;
     private float startingObjectHealth = 80f;
     public float resourcesGiven = 2f;
     public float objectRespawnTime = 5;

     // Start is called before the first frame update
     void Start()
     {
         startingObjectHealth = objectHealth;
     }

     public void HarvestResources(float amnt)
     {
         objectHealth -= amnt;
         if(objectHealth <= 0)
         {
             StartCoroutine(WaitRespawn());
         }
     }

     IEnumerator WaitRespawn()
     {
         Destroy(objectDestroy);
         GameObject go = Instantiate(spawnItem);
         go.transform.position = transform.position;
         yield return new WaitForSeconds(objectRespawnTime);
     }
 }
