Creating a line between 2 points using a sprite

So I am currently working on a little angry birds clone and right now, I want to make that rubber band that bends from the bird to the slingshot. For this, I added a sprite to the scene. I made it move in the center between the bird and the point, where it's supposed to stick to the slingshot and gave it the right rotation using this code:

 spring1.transform.position = birdPos + (springp1.transform.position - birdPos) / 2;
 Vector2 distance;
 distance = springp1.transform.position - spring1.transform.position;
 float angle = Mathf.Atan2(distance.y, distance.x) * Mathf.Rad2Deg;
 spring1.transform.rotation = Quaternion.AngleAxis(angle, Vector3.forward);

Notes: spring1 is the rubberband gameobject, springp1 is the position of where rubberband will stick to the slingshot as a gameobject, birdPos is obvoiusly the position of the bird as vector2

Now, the rubberband was positoned and rotated, I just needed to adjust the length (the x value of the scale), so it bends from birdPos to springp1. Note, that the y value is always gonna be at 0,7 so don't let that bother you. First, I tried this using some math, that I'm not going to deeply explain since it doesn't matter anyways:

 spring1.transform.localScale = new Vector3(Mathf.Sqrt((springp1.transform.position.x - birdPos.x) * (springp1.transform.position.x - birdPos.x) + (springp1.transform.position.y - birdPos.y) * (springp1.transform.position.y - birdPos.y)), 0.7f, 1);

The reason, why this doesn't matter is, that theres a much simpler solution using Vector2.Distance:

 spring1.transform.localScale = new Vector3(Vector2.Distance(springp1.transform.position, birdPos), 0.7f, 1);

However, both lines of code give me the same result: The Rubber band does indeed bend, but its always about 30% too long. Of course, the easiest solution would be to just make it 30% smaller every frame right after the previous code was executed, but I'd like to know, what I'm doing wrong here. Thanks to anyone who decides to answer!
