Standard Asset First Person Controller FPS Problems

I'm a Unity newbie attempting to create a simple first person camera to move about my first environment, and I've run into a couple of issues:

  1. When I press "Play," I only get about 0.6 FPS. It is truly a slideshow on my ATI 6950.

  2. I see an info message in the editor stating: "Please assign a target to the camera that has a T$$anonymous$$rdPersonController script attached."

Given how primitive my procedure is (delete main camera and add standard asset first person controller), it seems certain that someone has encountered t$$anonymous$$s problem before. Anyone have any ideas or references?

Have you tried assigning a target to the camera that has a ThirdPersonController script attached?

I'm at work at the moment, but the only target field on the camera that I remember seeing was a "Target Texture," I believe, which was set to "None." Perhaps I do not understand the purpose of the field, but "None" seems correct. I looked into changing it to something else, but the selection window that appeared contained no default textures. Is there a different camera "Target" field that I've missed?
