You can't, you need two different planes for that, or a very thin box, alternatively.

The reason is that graphics systems always cull backfaces. The faces are usually determined by the winding order, i.e. the order in which the vertices of a triangle are declared. Backfaces are culled because it's an easy way to conserve computational power - it is usually not necessary to render a face that's turning away from the viewer, such as the other side of an object's mesh, for instance.

As an addendum: You can force Unity to not cull backfaces manually if you write a shader and add "cull off" to it. This causes backfaces to display, but the lighting is wrong on that side because the normal vector points in the other direction, so that's usually not what you want, anyhow. $$anonymous$$ake two planes.

I am making a very low poly bug for a swarm. i want to cut down geo on the wings by turning backface culling off on the wings. your addendum is very helpful, thank you.
