Start and Stop Microphone with timer

i’m making a game in which the player blows into a microphone to move an object. Right now the microphone is always detecting sound and i have the object moving but I suspect the constant looping is why my game is running at super low frames. I want to only enable the microphone when a timer begins and then disable it when the timer stops.
