When I apply a wood texture to an object it is not applied appropriately

I have such a texture I need to apply to an object. alt text

However, when I apply it and a new material is created, the object doesn't seem to have an appropriate texture on it. alt text

your texture is square and your plane is rectangular. try messing with the tiling and see if that works.

if not, then it looks like the UVs on your plane might be incorrect.

thank you, tiling didn't help me at all. I'll try to change UVs
