TextMeshPro - Issues With Editing Vertex Values While Changing maxVisibleCharacters

@Stephan_B, because you're great with solving TextMeshPro stuff :)

I have been creating a dialogue system of sorts that utilizes TextMeshPro. Each piece of dialogue gets revealed character by character by incrementing maxVisibleCharacters every interval, creating a typewriter effect.

     private IEnumerator TypewriteText()
     {
         //make the text invisible
         int totalCharacters = panelText.textInfo.characterCount;
         int visibleCharacters = 0;

         //count through the text, revealing one character at a time
         while(visibleCharacters <= totalCharacters)
         {
             panelText.maxVisibleCharacters = visibleCharacters;
             visibleCharacters++;

             yield return new WaitForSeconds(typewriterSpeed);
         }
     }

Simultaneously, any extraneous text effects editing specific vertex values of specific characters (color, sine wave, shake) gets applied before the typewriter effect takes place.

     private void DialogueRed(DialogueEffect effect)
     {
         TMP_TextInfo textInfo = text.textInfo;

         for (int i = effect.startCharacter; i < effect.endCharacter; i++)
         {
             if(!textInfo.characterInfo[i].isVisible)
             {
                 continue;
             }

             int materialIndex = textInfo.characterInfo[i].materialReferenceIndex;
             int vertexIndex = textInfo.characterInfo[i].vertexIndex;

             textInfo.meshInfo[materialIndex].colors32[vertexIndex + 0] = Color.red;
             textInfo.meshInfo[materialIndex].colors32[vertexIndex + 1] = Color.red;
             textInfo.meshInfo[materialIndex].colors32[vertexIndex + 2] = Color.red;
             textInfo.meshInfo[materialIndex].colors32[vertexIndex + 3] = Color.red;
         }

         text.UpdateVertexData(TMP_VertexDataUpdateFlags.All);
     }

When changing maxVisibleCharacters, however, these effects disappear as the text component 'resets' to its default position and color. To combat this, I had placed the extraneous text effects to apply every frame in Update, but the 'resets' from maxVisibleCharacters still clash with the text effects, creating an unwanted 'flicker' as demonstrated in this gif.

The question is this - How do you edit the value of maxVisibleCharacters and specific vertex values of characters within the same frame?

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, as documentation for TextMeshPro seems to be outdated or nonexistent.
