I suggest you start with the Unity tutorials - they show you how to make several complete games:

If you are "new in the business", not get your hopes up about creating a multiplayer game. You will need a lot of coding expertise to pull something like that off. Focus on something very simple.

You should start with simple, single-player games, before moving onto multi-player. With time, you will see that even them are hard work! But you have to start somewhere.

I did my first GameDev/Unity3D tutorials on 3dbuzz.com, and loved them. Seriously, they are really good and have a lot a complete newbie material. I recommend the 2D Shooter tutorial (it's free!). Check it out.

Good luck with your dream!

You should start with something simple. Try a pong remake, or do the tutorials on unity website. Also see this related question. And the career choice, well, it's not as dreamish as you may think. If you want to make projects with other, check out the collaboration section in the forum.
