Question by Karto_ · 4 days ago · eventevent-handling

C# does not fire from one method but fires fine from another

I have this event, when called from one place works completely fine, but from another just doesn't call for whatever reason. The print statement accompanying the invoke gets printed in both cases though :/

 public event EventHandler<KitchenObjectSO> OnAddedToPlate;

     public bool TryAddToPlate(KitchenObject kitchenObject)
     {
         if (CanAddToPlate(kitchenObject))
         {
             KitchenObjectSO kitchenObjectSO = kitchenObject.GetKitchenObjectSO();

             kitchenObjectSOList.Add(kitchenObjectSO);
             OnAddedToPlate?.Invoke(this, kitchenObjectSO);
             print("Added " + kitchenObject);

             return true;
         }
         return false;
     }

Here are the 2 places im calling TryAddToPlate()

EventCallWorks.cs

 PlateKitchenObject plateKitchenObject = GetKitchenObject() as PlateKitchenObject;
                         if (plateKitchenObject.TryAddToPlate(player.GetKitchenObject()))
                         {
                             player.GetKitchenObject().DestroySelf();
                             OnPlaceOnCounter?.Invoke(this, EventArgs.Empty);
                             OnPlaceOntoPlate?.Invoke(this, EventArgs.Empty);
                         }

EventCallDoesNotWork.cs

 if (plateReference.CanAddToPlate(objectWithPlayer))
             {
                 PlateKitchenObject plate = SpawnPlate(player);
                 plate.TryAddToPlate(objectWithPlayer);
                 objectWithPlayer.DestroySelf();
             }

I really dont understand why this doesnt work. I tried calling TryAddToPlate() from the class (That doesnt work) in another place, and it still does not work, but when i try to call it from a new testing class, it does work. So something is wrong with the class in specific? How does that make sense?

If the print statement is executed in both cases but not the event and assuming there is no error in your logs, it seems that in one case the EventHandler OnAddedToPlate is empty or missing the method you expect to be called by the event.

Please post all the code/classes involved.
