Question by HolBol · Jun 28, 2010 at 03:58 PM · car

Car is acting oddly

Yesterday, when I stopped working on my game, my car was fine. Drove nice, etc. Now, i've opened it today, and the top speed of the car has doubled under the same settings it was on. The car used to have a top speed of 101 mph, and now, it can reach 245 mph with no issues! What has happened to my car? A glitch or what?

When you find out what it was, please let me know, I want to do the same to my car :)

Maybe your PC has fewer things to do so there is more processing speed for Unity?

Try using Time.deltaTime as factor for your car movement, so it will move frame rate independent (the same speed on different machines with different frames per second).

I am using the car tutorial script, slightly modified to expose variables and add a brake. http://www.gotow.net/andrew/blog/?page_id=78

Hard to know what it could be, but I have had such increase in speed on objects when they collide with another object. $$anonymous$$y understanding is that a speed limiter needs to catch/trap this behavior. I would put a line in your code to create a list of objects when the car is colliding with anything... in case you are colliding with an invisible object left over in development. .

Choose a Time.deltaTime value appropriate for your game, then do NOT touch it again! Inexplicably, Time.deltaTime have influence on WheelCollider's behaviour.
