Question by slkjdfv · Jul 01, 2010 at 01:47 AM · ragdollanimation-blending

how do i blend a ragdoll and a models animation

confusing i know. basicly i want to be able to take my characters walking animation and blend it in with a ragdoll. that way the more hurt he is i can show it by making him more like a doll and go limp over time using a variable. my question is how do i blend current animation with a ragdoll or give the effect of looking more ragdollish?

p.s. yes i know using a ragdoll itself wont work cause all a ragdoll is is a more realistic death simulation.

Making your character "limp" programmatically is not an easy problem to solve. Honestly you'd be better off just making a separate set of "in pain" animations.

On a similar note, when your character does actually die and you want it to smoothly blend with the ragdoll itself, there's this question: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/12685/rigidbodies-pickup-momentum-from-animation

well i dont want him to basically go limp when he gets hurt that was just an example basically. is there a way to blend his animation with his surroundings is what im asking basically. so if hes running and hits a rock or something he goes into a ragdoll like stumble while still trying to walk, so to speak

Again, not an easy problem to solve. Part of it is AI driven, part of it is animation driven, etc. There are whole companies dedicated to providing middleware for more realistic character interactions with the world. For example, these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VokRXBpf-w
