Slowdown with armv7 on iPhone4 and armv6 on iPhone4S

I've recently run into a problem while testing my game on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. When building with armv6 the game runs smoothly on the iPhone 4 and has severe slowdown on the iPhone 4S. When building with armv7 the problem is reversed: runs smoothly on the 4S and has severe slowdown on the iPhone4. Has anyone else had this problem?
