How to make child not to be affected by parent's animation ?

Hello everyone, I have an object which has an animation, when I play it, that object's child gameObjects are animating to, so I don't want the child to animate, is there any way to make child not to animate while the parent object animates ? Thanks :)

while animating you can tell the child, transform.parent = null; then when the animation is over you can say transform.parent = oldParent.transform;

This is troubling me and I cannot figure it out!

If you do as you suggest the child objects transform jumps to a position relative to the world or something rather than the parent and then when resetting to the parents transform the child flies over to the parent?

Had two cubes, big and small with big the parent and they are connected at one side. move the parent + its child to centre of screen and when at centre drop the child to the ground but have the parent continue on its way leaving the child in its landing place.

If I do it using your suggestion when I detach the child from parent it jumps right up near the camera and then at the end when parent has stopped moving and I reattch to it the child stays on the ground but flies off to be relative to the parent :-((
