Rigidbody Vortex never brings target to a stop

I have a rigidbody I am trying to "pull" into a point, like a vortex. My code for getting it "into" the vortex works, but I'd like there to be a slowdown effect. In other words, I'd like it to -- eventually -- come to a stop at this point. But with the code as it is now, it simply oscillates back and forth, since no friction or gravity is applied.

Physically speaking, the rigidbody is regaining all of the velocity lost when decelerating towards the vortex point. I'd like to "lower the max velocity" on each pass through the vortex, and eventually have the object grind to a stop at or near the vortex vector.

Here is the code I'm using on the rigidbody:

 Vector3 vortexPosition; // set elsewhere in code
 
 void FixedUpdate ()
 {
   impulseVector = vector - vortexPosition;
   rigidbody.AddForce(impulseVector, ForceMode.Impulse);
 }
