Question by Samssonart · May 23, 2012 at 07:00 PM · lens-flare

Cross fade two flares

I have a light that uses two different flares depending on the camera position, I wrote some code to switch between them:

  void Awake()
   {
     Instance = this;
     currentFlare = Flare1;
     this.light.flare = currentFlare.flare;
     gameObject.GetComponent<LensFlare>().enabled = false;
    }

 void Update()
 {
     if (MapView.MapIsEnabled) changeToMode1();
     else if (!MapView.MapIsEnabled && Logic.playerPosition < 20000) changeToMode2();
     else changeToMode1();
     lightDirection = ((Vector3d)target.position - this.position.normalized;
     transform.forward = lightDirection;
     currentFlare.brightness = (float)(1.0 / (Vector3d.Distance(target.position, (this.position * ScaleFactor)) / (Logic.AU * ScaleFactor)));
 }

 void changeToMode1()
 {
     currentFlare = Flare1;
     this.light.flare = currentFlare.flare;
 }

 void changeToMode2()
 {
     currentFlare = Flare2;
     this.light.flare = currentFlare.flare;
 }

Flares 1 and two are LensFlares. The stuff calculated in Update doesn't have to do with this, it's just a vector I need for some shaders.

This works, but if the camera is facing the light directly, so the flare is visible, you can clearly see when the flares are switched, is there a way to cross fade this transition, so it doesn't look so abrupt?
