Converting Text to Mesh?

Question

I want to have 3D text with depth and textures over the text. Can I convert TextMesh to Mesh object? So I could have control over the mesh vertices and make depth for the text.

There are packages for doing 3d text on Asset Store, I think Eric created some solution to it too. Out of the box it will not work cause TextMesh are just quads for each letter.
