Use in AddComponent

I'm trying to write a method using , for example...

 public static T Initialize<T>()
 {
     return gameObject.AddComponent<T>();
 }

but I get this error....

The type T' must be convertible to UnityEngine.Component' in order to use it as parameter T' in the generic type or method UnityEngine.GameObject.AddComponent()'

I assume it's because it needs to guarantee that a Component type is being passed in as T, how can I get around this?

You need to add a clause to the end of your definition:

 public static T Initialize<T>() where T : Component
 {
     return gameObject.AddComponent<T>();
 }
