Why do my Activities start in new tasks with Unity(Android)?

Question

Before adding Unity to my existing project, calling startActivity() would start the new activity in the existing task (which is the default, expected behavior). Since adding Unity into the application, calling startActivity() everywhere in the application causes the new activities to start in new tasks, which is breaking the workflow of the app.

Is there some setting that Unity defines which would cause Activities to start in new tasks? How do I disable this?

Turns out this was entirely a problem with my Manifest file having singleInstance set for many of my activities. Removing this did the trick.
