Question by Nathan Bennett · Oct 24, 2010 at 12:02 PM · androidfreereleasedate

Is Unity Android going to be Free?

Is the Android version of unity going to be free?

on the unity website, it says that Basic unity android will come out at a later date, and that the android Unity now, is just an add-on to unity Pro? but it also say it will follow the same license structure as IOS unity, but that Cost's doesn't it? if so, why is it called Basic Android? erhhh...I'm so confused.

Unity android better be free. i forked alot of money into my Droid, and i don't want to have to pay a couple of grand for unity to develop for it.

i don't know about you guys, but i could do a lot with a couple of grand.

also one thing... when will Android Unity actually be released? tah

It's understandable that you feel that way, but that fact that you invested a lot of money into your Droid has no bearing on whether Unity Tech. can afford to give away their software for free.

I agree with @Bampf on this one. What do you expect? Why should Unity people develop a free piece of software for you if you dont want to support their further development? They are helping you from having to learn JAVA and Android OS program$$anonymous$$g. So if you are serious developer, you will also want an easy shortcut to develop great games. Unity3D is such a solution. But every easy way has a price.

We don't know when Unity Android will be released, and no it will not be free. There will likely be a basic version that will have a price comparable to the basic iOS license ($400) in cost. So you will not have to fork over a couple grand, only a couple hundred.
