Lights in a horror game

Hello, I am pretty new to game development and I am making a game that should be scary, and wish to add lights so that the player can see the objects and in the same time the game look scary

any ideas? should I write certain shaders or what?

no need for shaders. just add lights, and move them around until they look scary. Study classic horror films, and learn about who the leading DOPs were in that era, make a study of it.

And while you're at it, look into Unity's light cookies. I'm sure you can get some pretty nice (and scary) effects with them. http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Components/class-Light.html

indeed, projectors - ie, blob shadows - could help you too. (you can make them either a shadow or a glow)

and also add some flickering lights : http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/ScriptReference/Light-intensity.html

Change colour, intensity, rotation (for Spot Lights), position (for Point Lights) : http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/ScriptReference/Light.html
