What is the best way to learn Unity?

I went to Barnes and Noble the other day to look for a book that would teach me Unity. I found a book that suited my needs and bought it. When I got home I started reading the book and about 10 pages through the book I realised that the version of unity in the book was 2.4. I did some research and found the most recent book was on unity 3.0. Should I get another book or should I read tutorials and/or watch videos online that are more recent?

Let me ask a question. Have you downloaded Unity to your computer yet?

You should certainly try to read a book on Unity 3.x like this one

It's worth looking at the tutorials from the unity web site or Burgzergarcade etc - make sure you do one that is Unity 3 focussed.

Sorry dude, of all the times this is asked, you are going to get the sarcastic comment. This is no reflection on you, and I hope to see you ask many questions here while learning Unity, and Unity is Awesome.

... but SERIOUSLY, you need to learn how to use a search engine. This question always comes up and my generic answer is : Use Google. Do tutorials.

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=learn+unity

Here is a list of tutorials to get you going :

Start at the bottom and work up : http://www.unity3dstudent.com/category/modules/essential-skills/

Start at the bottom and work up : http://www.unity3dstudent.com/category/modules/beginner/

the Unity Wiki : http://wiki.unity3d.com/index.php/Tutorials

A list of resources : http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/12321/how-can-i-start-learning-unity-fast-list-of-tutori.html

this is the YouTube link for the above as one playlist : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oXYHNSmTxg&list=PL27B696FB515608D2&feature=plcp

it is noteworthy that this is by the same author as the book linked by Mike, you should do well starting here =]

There is many video documentation and video tutorials in unity home. Many more on youtube.

There an wiki:

http://wiki.unity3d.com/index.php/Main_Page

Take a search for answers. Example, from "Related Questions":

I remember when I first started learning Unity, there were no books and video tutorials were far and few between! I had put together a series on Unity for Flash Developers, which is was very popular.

While there are lots of great tutorials online, I also wanted to make you aware of a brand new paid course on Unity 4 called **Anyone Can Learn to Make A Gam*e on Udemy. The course features over 30 HD videos and complete source code examples* you can download and try out. It's also taught be a professional developer with over 10 years of experience. You can find the course at https://www.udemy.com/unity-tutorial/

Note that this is not the relevant place for this but more likely the Forum in the showcase section. Even more since you are selling the product.

I think it is appropriate and relevant since the original poster was asking the best way to learn Unity. The original poster also talks about buying a book to help them learn, so I'm just letting them know about my course, which they may benefit from knowing about. If the post was not related to the question, I'd totally agree with you, but I do not believe this is the case here, but I do appreciate and respect your thoughts. No intent to spam here, just provide information related to the question :-)
