Weird light popping

Hello! I've recently noticed a problem. When I walk with a flashlight, I made, in a dark environment and the light hits a tree it's looks like it's popping in. I think I know the reason why this happens. It seems to be when the light hits an object it immediately lights up the object instead of fading in. I was wondering if anyone could help me to fix this problem. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Try adjusting the intensity of the light, it may be up too high. Intensity ranges from 0 to 8.

I really don't see anything wrong here, and I still don't know what you mean by popping.

Usually when a light hits a tree in real life, it lights up immediately...

An no, I'm not being a wise acre, I'm really trying to figure out what you're having a problem with. The explanation wassn't so clear. Try adjusting the Intensity of the spotlight, turn it to 1 or lower. Use a light cookie. Don't have the world's Ambient light set to absolute zero, you can have it black, but put it at like RGB 10, 10, 10...
