Question by Hagit · Feb 24, 2013 at 06:00 PM · install

I am trying to install Unity on a PC with Windows 7 Professional. I get the answer:"Unity requires Windows XP...". What can i do?

I am trying to download from this site; http://unity3d.com/unity/download/ and get this message: "Unity requires Windows XP or later". It has an OK box to check after that.I have Windows 7 Professional.

We are going to need more information to try and help you. I personally have never heard of that error message.

What version of Unity are you trying to install, and where did you get it from? What exactly is the error message you're getting?

Only the super mods (over 10k) can delete/send back to moderation que. Personally I leave these types of questions in there for them to delete, but some mods just approve them anyway :/

If you wanted to, you could easily go through @alucardj's answers and vote up any you like - you could get him a lot closer to 10k :)

You are all too kind, and you have my sincere deepest thanks and appreciation. $$anonymous$$ost are answers to new users though (a reflection of my own skill level), some of those 400 answers are technical. I try and help out with the newbies and the mod que. As a point, any correct answer should get an upvote (if it is educational and useful to future readers). And it is clear to regular users who the pros are, they should be upvoted for their time. I have upvoted a couple of answers for you both too. So thankyou again, I shall not abuse the power =]

Edit : now with all this off-topic discussion, this really does need to be removed!

That is strange. So to clarify : Are you getting the error message when trying to download the exe; OR getting the error when installing ?

If it is the latter, try downloading the exe from this link (or even the first version of 4.x, install that and then install the latest version) : http://unity3d.com/unity/download/archive

I cannot be of more help as I am still on Unity 3.x with my iOS stuff. I have edited your question to include your comment. Have a watch of this video on how to use Unity Answers so you don't get negative feedback : http://video.unity3d.com/video/7720450/tutorials-using-unity-answers

Hi, I was running into the same error, getting the "Win XP or later required" message and then the installer closed, when trying to install Unity 3.5.7 (downloaded from http://unity3d.com/unity/download/archive) on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

However, I found that the installer ran successfully after running the installer exe as an administrator. You'll have to navigate to your downloads directory and right-click on the file and choose "Run as Administrator". Once I did that I was able to complete the install. Hope this helps!
