Question by MythStrott · Jan 25, 2011 at 03:07 AM · blendermodeldisplaywebsite

Is it possible to display a blender model on a website?

I know t$$anonymous$$s could easily be done with Unity, but it shouldn't need an entire game engine to do t$$anonymous$$s. I would rather not make the visitors install Unity just to look at a model. T$$anonymous$$s is not$$anonymous$$ng against Unity (I love Unity).

I have a feeling t$$anonymous$$s isn't easy or even plausible, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks.

Visitors don't install Unity, they install the Unity webplayer plugin, w$$anonymous$$ch is quite small (and helps increase the Unity webplayer install base). It only has to be done once, plus it's handled automatically. So there's no real reason to avoid using Unity...the whole point of the webplayer is to allow good 3D on the web.

Again, I'm not knocking Unity, but I'm looking for a way to make this easier and clickfree for the visitors.

And I know it's called the "Unity webplayer" and not "Unity". Sorry for being so confusing.

Some people think you have to install Unity (the whole thing) to play Unity content. So yeah, maybe you should say what you mean. You could try messing with WebGL, but then this question has nothing to do with Unity anyway, and should be asked elsewhere.

Yeah. When x3dom or some WebGL app comes along, it will be sweet. Until then, Unity is the best I've found. That said, there are some Flash-based 3d viewers. Generally suck by today's visual standards, but may be ok for your uses, depending on what you need.

Thanks Dave. Ill use images for most of it, and a link to a Unity Webplayer for the full 3D
