"@" animation naming not adding to fbx

I've imported two FBXs, player and player@anim. I exported player from maya with and without animation checked in maya's exporter. checked and unchecked import animations in the unity inspector and it doesn't seem to help. the player fbx's animation tab is supposed to pull all those "@anims" in as clips correct? i'm probably doing something dumb. also will those animations appear in the array when i make player a game object?
