Shader syntax

I've been learning shader programming and have successfully made my own shaders by combining others and adjusting as i need fit.

However i want to use sliders so that for example i can adjust the specular or bump map manually. I know that its via using the Range variable /function whatever you want to call it to set a min and max number(producing sliders). However the unity website doesn't give enough dept concerning shader syntax.

How do you effectively code sliders to effectively increase or decrease the bump for example or specular.

ReflDistort ("Reflection distort", Range (0,1.5)) = 0.5

^^ The above line is an example of the Range method i talked about and how it produces sliders to effectively increase or decrease something(eg bump). What confuses me is why does the min and max number equal something else?
