Head bone rotation question

I'm trying to control a head bone in LateUpdate. I need it to look along it's parent forward, but not by its local axis, because the head bone's axis isn't upright. The closest I've come to figuring it out is to save the head bone rotation on start, then in late update say head.rotation = headStart.rotation. This makes the head upright, but it will look in world degrees.

How do I fix it? Thank you
