Question by ZeroKcm · Jul 14, 2013 at 07:10 AM · android

Use same PlayerPrefs in multiple app?

Hello I have two instances of my Android game: a limited free and a full paid one.

If a user play with the free version, i store caracteristics in PlayerPrefs.

When he buy the paid version is it possible to use the same PlayerPrefs ? Otherwise he'll restart all the game...

Thanks for your help.

(As far as I know) 2 different apps cannot share the same PlayerPrefs. They are per app based. You will need to develop some other method of saving the data.

I agree with @Benproductions1 on this. Although, I think a 'hacky' way to do this would be for it to be actually the same app.

You simply show the rest of the levels as locked (if free is true for example) and when the paid version is bought you set free to false therefore unlocking the rest of the levels - and the users will be able to not lose their progress in doing so.

Hope this makes some sense whatsoever.

@Eugenius Personally, I think that approach is the best way. It's not "hacky". Having it in the same app, means no progress syncing between apps, no need to install a new app when you buy, and buying the app can be an in-app purchase, meaning you can get the full cut (on android... I think)(not on IOSX)
