Add opcaity to a 2d image

Hi all,

I have just added a 2d image and got it to display on the screen. Is there a way to..

a)Allow the image to keep its transparency i set in an external piece of software. b)Add transparency to the image in unity3d

if you grab photoshop, select the area you want to keep transparent and hit "delete"

You can also erase parts of the image with eraser. You can set the hardness of the eraser, so it only erases half of the picture, making it semi-transparent. SAve the file in png format and import it to unity.

Create a separate material. For the shader pick the one which supports transparency and assign your texture to it. Then, assign material to a mesh.

Also the import settings for the texture need to support transparency.

And btw, this is a 2d 2d image which is being draw on the screen. It is not being drawn in the scene so that the player can interact with it; it is there to show text etc...
