How to make First Person Controller Travel through different axis?

So I'm making a strategy game of sorts. I'm using the first person controller to provide an overhead view looking down at the terrain and I have been able to disable gravity and jumping however I'm sort of lost as to where I can change how to controller moves so that it can move through the X axis using W and S so that I have 4 directions for the camera to use.

Why change the axis? That seems like wanting to change the world instead of you changing to adapt to the world. SO in essence, just right a few simple if statements to just allow the axis to stay as they are because changing can cause serious side effects.

Have W and S move to some axis in stead of the other way around.

Typically, FPS act on something like this Press "W": then move(Vector3.forward) // which is the +Z axis

You want it to move left then do this move(Vector3.left)

Leave the axes alone. Changing the axis will involve you having to change your entire way of think to your own set of axis placement.
