Question by Ben Blaut · Jul 26, 2013 at 07:22 PM · batchingexternal-tools

Get output of batch file

So I'm spawning a process to launch a .bat file which grabs values from the registry for another program used in conjunction with Unity (I can't use PlayerPrefs), then writes the values to a text file. It uses reg.exe to do this, since Unity doesn't play nice with using .NET registry stuff. When I run my batch file from the command line or click on it, everything works fine. However, with the following code to start it from within Unity, it simply doesn't work. It runs the batch file and even sends the correct commands, but it won't create or write to the text file. Is there some security detail within Unity that I'm missing, or some other way to do this?

JavaScript

 import System.Diagnostics;

 function Awake ()
 {
     var getRegVals : Process = new Process();
     getRegVals.StartInfo.FileName = Application.dataPath + "/Scripts/get_registry_values.bat";
     getRegVals.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
     getRegVals.Start();
 }

Batch

 echo off
 setlocal ENABLEEXTENSIONS
 set KEY_NAME=HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\test_app
 set VALUE_NAMES=(test1 test2 test3 test4)
 for %%i in %VALUE_NAMES% do (
     for /F "usebackq tokens=3" %%A IN (`reg query "%KEY_NAME%" /v "%%i" 2^>nul ^| find "%%i"`) do (
         echo %%A >> registry_values.txt
     )
 )
